Let's face it women health, we're not getting any younger, so we have to be considered our health from different angles, and with different health concerns than when we were younger. The sooner we detect any problems with our health, the sooner we can figure out how to handle them, so that we don't have to fight with them later when they become a serious sickness.

Mammograms
I have to say this test might make the top of the "most detested" list (even above the dreaded Pap test), but it is one of the most critical tests, for the most part if you have breast cancer in your family history. As a woman in her 40's you need to start having yearly mammograms, unless, of course, there is a family history of it, and then you would have started your yearly testing at a much younger age. Unfortunately, the number of women battling breast cancer is continually rising, but through early detection, you increase your chance of beating this disease and living your normal life. Furthermore, if you do have a family history of breast cancer, there are two blood tests BRCA1 and BRCA2 that you can have done, which will tell you if you have the BRCA breast cancer gene. You might not want to know if you have this gene, but it could end up saving your life, and it's easier to utilize preventive medicine rather than deal with the disease and its effects once it has taken over your body. Don't forget to perform your own monthly breast self-examination.

A bone density health test is not generally performed on women until they're around age 65, however, certain risk factors will necessitate that few women have their testing started in their 40's. Included in the risk factors are women that have suffered adult bone fractures, gone through early menopause (before age 45), weigh under 127 pounds, have osteoporosis in their family history, have been taking steroid medications for longer than three months, who are or were smokers, who maintain a continual drinking habit of at least two drinks per day, and women with low calcium levels.
